만들고, 사고, 입고, 버리는 ‘당연했던’ 흐름에서 벗어나 패션을 통해 더 나은 가치를 만들고 있는 CHALLENGER의 이야기와 우리 모두가 CHALLENGER로서 행동할 수 있는 방법을 전합니다.
We collaborate with ‘CHALLENGERS’, who are bringing change to the former fashion ecosystem so that everyone can enjoy sustainable fashion in their own way.
Breaking away from the conventional cycle of making, buying, wearing, and tossing, we share the stories of CHALLENGERS who are creating new value through sustainable fashion and explore ways for all of us to take action as CHALLENGERS.

모두가 지속 가능한 패션을 취향껏 즐길 수 있도록 걸어보지 않은 길을 나서며 실패를 두려워하기보다 끊임없이 패션 생태계에서 변화를 일궈내는 사람들, CHALLENGER의 이야기를 나눕니다.
We share the stories of CHALLENGERS—those who venture onto uncharted paths, fearlessly driving change in the fashion ecosystem rather than fearing failure—so that everyone can enjoy sustainable fashion in their own way.
Q 환경과 지속 가능성의 편에 서서 목소리를 내신 지 벌써 20년이 지났어요. 지나온 시간을 되돌아봤을 때의 소감이 어떠신지.
It’s been 20 years since you started speaking up for the environment and sustainability. How do you feel looking back on that time?
A 지난 20년은 실패와 반복 속에서 ‘나의 것’이 무엇인지 찾는 과정이었어요. 일상에서 친환경적인 생활 습관을 실천하는 과정에서 시행착오를 겪으며, 나에게 맞는 방식을 선택하는 데 집중했거든요. 최근 ‘그 사람을 설명하는 건, 말이 아닌 행동’이라는 말에 꽂혔는데, 빗대어 생각해 보니 지키고 싶은 신념을 위해 꾸준히 행동하며 나쁘지 않게 살아왔구나, 라는 생각이 들더라고요.
The past 20 years have been a journey of trial and error—figuring out what truly feels like mine. I went through a lot of ups and downs while trying to build eco-friendly habits into my daily life, and over time, I focused on finding an approach that genuinely works for me. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about this phrase: “A person isn’t defined by their words, but by their actions.” It really stuck with me. And when I look back, I realize—through steady actions rooted in what I believe in—I’ve lived a life that, honestly, I’m quite proud of.

Q 사실 20년이라는 긴 시간 동안 소신을 드러내는 것이 쉽지는 않으셨을 것 같아요. Honestly, it couldn’t have been easy to stay true to your beliefs for 20 long years.
EP1 • “나는 직면하는 사람” 진심으로 빚은 신념
Q <얼루어>에서만 10년 이상 지나셨어요. 그전의 경험까지 합치면 꽤 오랜 시간 에디터로 지내오셨는데, 에디터만의 매력은 무엇이라고 생각하시나요? You’ve been with Allure for over 10 years now. Including your earlier experiences, you’ve spent quite a long time as an editor. What do you think is the most appealing aspect of being an editor? A 에디터는 지금 우리가 사는 순간을 포착해 많은 오디언스에게 알리는 역할을 해요. 그래서 연차와 상관없이 자신이 기획하고 담당한 화보와 기사를 책임지며 많은 경험을 쌓을 수 있죠. 에디터만의 매력은, 원하는 만큼 취재를 할 수 있다는 점이에요. 그것이 작가와 구분되는 점이기도 합니다. 배우, 아이돌, 작가와 같은 아티스트부터 브랜드, 기업에 질문하고 답을 들을 수 있거든요. 제가 생각하는 멋진 브랜드와 사람, 작품을 응원할 수 있다는 것도 보람 있는 일입니다. 에디터라는 직업에 흥미를 같은 ‘젠지(Gen-z)’ 세대가 많은데 사실 에디터는 스스로 돋보이는 직업은 아니라고 생각해요. 반대로 다른 사람을 돋보이게 해주죠.
An editor’s job is to capture the moment we’re living in and share it with a broad audience. Regardless of how many years you’ve been in the field, you get to take full responsibility for the features and photo shoots you plan, which gives you the chance to accumulate a lot of hands-on experience. What I find most appealing is that editors can report and research as much as they want—that’s something that sets us apart from writers. We can ask questions and have conversations with artists like actors, idols, and authors, as well as with brands and companies. It’s rewarding to support the people, brands, and works I admire. A lot of Gen Zs seem to be interested in the editor role these days, but I personally don’t think it’s a job that puts the spotlight on yourself. On the contrary, it’s about helping others shine.
Q 한 사람의 이야기를 세상 밖으로 끄집어내는 건 섬세함을 요구하는 일일 것 같아요. 원고를 쓸 때, 늘 지키고자 하는 법칙이 있으실까요? Drawing out someone’s story and sharing it with the world must require a great deal of sensitivity. Do you have any personal rules you stick to when writing?
A 저 자신이 더 멋있고, 똑똑해 보이기 위해 없는 이야기를 지어내거나 조작하는 않아요. 특히 인터뷰를 할 때 해당되죠. 제 자신을 내세우기보다 인터뷰하는 인물의 자연스러운 매력과 생각, 콘텐츠의 기획 의도를 잘 전달하려고 노력합니다. I never make things up or manipulate stories just to make myself look smarter or more impressive—especially when it comes to interviews. Rather than focusing on myself, I try to faithfully convey the natural charm, thoughts, and intentions of the person I’m interviewing or the concept behind the content.
<얼루어>는 2009년부터 매년 4월호를 ‘그린 이슈’로 선보이며, 한 권 전체를 환경과 지속 가능성을 주제로 채워왔다. Allure Korea has been presenting the "Green Issue" every April since 2009, filling the entire issue with themes of environment and sustainability.
